Install MSI Packages via GPO
Easy way of sending mis packaged software out to station on your domain using active directoy
Open Run
From Run connect to you domain controller
\\highschooldc1 to connect you domain control, you will see that there are 2 folders already shared

In the netlogon folder just create a software package folder, the users cannot see this anyway but its just somewhere we can get easy access to later on
Place the Software MSI you want to install in to this Software Package folder

We need to create a group policy that will push teh desired software out to the computers
Open Group policy management
and drill done through the left hand side menu until you find " group policy objects"
Right click on group policy objects and select new, give it a name for example "software packages", you can select a base GPO from the dropdown menu (source Started GPO) but im just leaving it set as none.

Now find your new GPO
Right click on it, and select edit

And go to
Computer Configuration
¬ Policies
¬ Software Settings
and right click on Software Installation
New
¬ Package
Browse to the folder you created earlier in netlogon
eg: \\domaindc1\netlogon\software package, and select the software package you want to install.

I leave the next settings as standard with Assigned selected, as i do not want to configure the Published settings.
Click ok and then your new package will show up in the right hand side panel

If you want to you can right click on the new package and select properties just to check through the settings, now is an ideal time to make any slight changes for example the package name
Now we need to add the new policy that will push the software to the group of computers we want the software on.
So in Group Policy Management find the OU (Organisational Unit) where the pc are, in my case they are in ICT Office

Right click on the OU and select " Link an existing GPO"
Select the new policy we created (Software Package GPO)
Click ok
Click ok
Now when you restart he computers in the group they will install the software
Blue Exclamation mark on my GPO OU
If you look closely you will see a little blue exclamation mark on my ICT Office OUthis is because i have set this group up block Inheritance of GPO's
